PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release: March 8, 2011
Music journalist Michael Azerrad and Tiger Mountain Presents are pleased to announce Our Band Could Be Your Concert, a very special evening of music at the Bowery Ballroom on May 22nd, 2011.
In celebration of the tenth anniversary of Azerrad's classic history of the '80s indie underground, Our Band Could Be Your Life, some of the best bands in contemporary indie music will play songs by each of the 13 bands in the book.
"For years, all kinds of people — musicians, people who run labels, concert promoters, journalists, whatever — have told me that they've been very inspired by Our Band Could Be Your Life and the bands it profiles, which is incredibly gratifying and totally unexpected," says Azerrad. "The tenth anniversary of the book was a great occasion for the current generation of bands to celebrate these pioneers."
The bill so far, in the order the original bands appear in the book:
Nat Baldwin, David Longstreth and Brian McOmber play Black Flag
Special guest hosts also t.b.a., and who knows, maybe some surprises too.
Delicate Steve plays the Minutemen
Ted Leo plays Minor Threat
Titus Andronicus plays the Replacements
Tune-Yards plays Sonic Youth
Dan Deacon plays the Butthole Surfers
St. Vincent plays Big Black
Wye Oak plays Dinosaur Jr
Buke & Gass plays Fugazi
More bands t.b.a.

Best line up of the year thus far!

It's the ultimate irony that the group of bands being paid tribute made music with a completely egalitarian ethos and the tickets have already multiplied 6x in cost. All ages $5 hardcore matinee shows a la Minor Threat and Fugazi have been rendered a virtual impossibility by modern scalping practices. The unscrupulous profiteers have sacked underground. That being said, I'd pay good money to see a high school orchestra play a Fugazi cover set, so I'll still fork out, but man that's a wicked burn. Our band could be your life... if you're filthy rich. Amazing line up though and awesome concept. The book rivals Lester Bangs for best rock n roll piece of literature ever in my mind.

1. A little math: 6x$5= $30, not $25
2. Those hardcore matinees didn't have 13 bands.
3. You can still easily see shows — at least in Brooklyn — for $5, $6 every night of the week.
4. Shows at major venues like the Bpwery Ballroom were never the equivalent of $5.
5. The price of the ticket to see Our Band Could Be Your Concert had nothing to do with scalpers.
6. Finally, $25 is not a price for the "filthy rich."
C'mon man, get real, check your facts, know what you're talking about before posting in a public forum. Thanks.

Sorry, I think I missed my mark on that comment. I was lamenting the fact that the concert sold out within 20 minutes and tickets immediately popped up on StubHub for $150. You are absolutely right that $25 is incredibly reasonable. It's just a bummer that prices can be driven sky high by dudes gobbling up tickets to a show they don't intend to go to.

Thanks for the clarification, Phil. I'm really sorry that you got shut out of the show. I'd like to know how many tickets are up on StubHub. I'd also like to know who put them there.

Turns out there are 24 tickets on StubHub. Not as bad as I feared. Most are going for $119, which is precisely 94 more dollars than they should be going for, not counting the various extortionate add-on fees.

damnn turns out I'm flying to New York on the 22th of May. The show is sold out. Is there a different way to get a ticket? Really want to go!
